Evolution understands profit and loss. Carnivores estimate the time and energy needed for their next meal based on the prey available. Strange behavior like licking sand by some animals can be explained by the soils minerals content. This means that evolution has developed some sort of algorithm towards net gains and loss in behavior.

This "gain" has many aspects and dimensions. Sometimes the gain is power and sometimes it is wealth. More gains means lower energy consumption to reach what we need. This also increases our chance of survival.

What else leads us to behave in certain ways and what controls these behaviors?
