Neurons, our nervous system units, are helpful for our cognition and personality. We can claim that our mind is who we are and this mind is created by neurons. In normal stages of health and growth, peripheral nerves; which are called parasympathetic nerves, release soluble factors called SHH. Some factors called Neurotransmitters, eg. Acetylcholine, which stimulate the cells to grow and during embryonic phase, and help in organogenesis.
Organogenesis is the process in which organs like liver and gut (intestine) is created. Sometimes, abnormal release of these factors result in excessive growth of the cells in the liver and gut. As the cells abnormally enlarge and proliferate they get cancerous and release some Neural Growth Factors (NGFs) which mediate the parasympathetic neurons grow. As the neurons grow, they create more growth factors of the tissues and the cancer spreads which causes disaster.
